The Great Mosque, Xian, China
This mosque was founded in 792 H. and much expanded in later centuries.
This mosque is one of the most important Muslim building complexes in China.
This mosque consists of a series of courtyards and pavillions along
an east west axis.
The minarat in this building is the tallest structure on the building,
and is a three-storey octagonal pagoda in a third courtyard. The
roofs are decorated with traditional dragons, with their celestial and
supernatural associations.
Its mostly built from stones and wood. The visitor should pass a courtyard
before reaching the main prayer hall.
The roof is proportional to the depth of the building. The " Mihrab"
is made of wood, and it is decorated with carved and painted motifs
which are from Central Asia in colour (Chinese colour).
